Janis Jones CAME TO OUR CLASS

Wow!! Could you imagine a casual day in your class, but then, a famous photographer just walks in?!? Well, that’s kinda what happened about 3-5 months ago.

Janis Jones, the sorta famous photographer you may know, takes pictures of trash washed up on the beach. So, the class did a project just like that with her! We had pre-cleaned trash and with that, we crafted a picture!! (Included in the video above. Please comment and enjoy!!)

Endangered Species Project

Well, due to many things including habitat loss, lack of prey, poachers, etc… Many animals are endangered. And we really need to make a difference.

A few months ago, my class took part in a tribute to Ghana, a city in Africa, in which we sent unwanted books to a school there. It was really cool to see everyone chip in to help, giving books, and money to help send the books there.

But it made me think.

We just helped the people. But what about the animals?? (Particularly the endangered ones.) So, that one idea developed into a SUPER AWESOME AND FUN project that I  came up with, and here’s what we did: Everyone got to pick an endangered or critically endangered animal. Then they had the choice to work with or without a partner. I decided to do the Sumatran Tiger, which is critically endangered, and I worked with a partner. Soo, what we did then was found some facts about that animal, and then we took A GREENSCREEN vid. Mine is down below, and please comment.

Alex out. Mic drop.

Planets find a way… The Big Blazing Sphere

Like I said from my previous post, our class has focused a lot on space this year, and inspired my Cindy Jenson Eliott’s book Weeds Find a Way, we copy changed it. PLANETS FIND A WAY, Way way. Enjoy mine, about the sun!

The Big Blazing Sphere

4.6 billion years ago, the sun found a way to form from dark, thick clouds colliding up in the starry atmosphere that is space,
But now…

The sun finds a way to glaze the world in a strong warmth that can never be broken, unless the chilling clouds come and cover the sky into a gray storm.

The sun finds a way to create a unique wonder: as water crosses through its rays, it has the power to create a rainbow.

The sun finds a way to take approximately 8 minutes to get from there to earth.

The sun finds a way to shine so brightly that you can see it in the center of the Milky Way.

The sun finds a way to be the center of attention as it watched over its planets.

The sun finds a way to be one of a kind: the sun is the only sun in the entire universe.

The sun finds a way to stand out, as its powerful orange flames make it be seen from anywhere.

The sun finds a way to roll high through the sapphire sky, keeping animals and plants great and small in the circle of life.

The sun finds a way to shine everywhere, spreading its gleaming rays to all.

Space Comic

This year in our class we definitely focused a lot on space. Then we made comics about space! We could pick one planet to focus on, or two, or three, of all of them! I picked Saturn, because I really wanted to mention about the ice rings. And because Saturn is awesome. Mine is about two penguins who… I’m actually not going to say anything about it, because you can read it for yourself right here!

Vocabulary Story: The Exhilarating Tornado Waterslide @ Great Wolf Lodge

Every week in my class, our teachers pick a word that me and my class have to figure out what it means. Every day we get closer and closer to finding out what it means. Once we have figured it out, we make a movement that represents it. This story is a real life story and happened only about a month ago, and has about half of the vocabulary word we’ve already discovered the meaning to. Take a look!   (By the way, the bold black words looking like this are the vocabulary words).

The Exhilarating Tornado Waterslide @ Great Wolf Lodge

One sunny morning at Great Wolf Lodge’s indoor waterpark, Alex and her friend Megan were contemplating whether to go on a waterslide called The Tornado, which was also the scariest waterslide in the entire waterpark. After a long while of Megan trying to convince her to go on it, and Alex inquiring if it was a good idea, Alex finally decided to go on The Tornado. But there was one predicament: the long line. So in their haste to get to the front, some of the innumerable people let them cut. 10 minutes later they were on the raft, eagerly awaiting this exhilarating ride. Then, they were shoved down the slide tube. The ride had begun! They glided speedily down a long tube, and that’s when Alex got the vantage of the 50 foot strait down drop. “Megan!!! Look at this DROOOOOOOP!” Alex screamed as they raft tipped downwards in the drop. They tenaciously sped down, and then were spit out, literally flying 5 feet off the ground into a humongous funnel. Alex was completely aghast at what Megan had convinced her to do. The raft was literally swooping up up on the sides of the funnel, almost upside down. As their friction diminished, the raft stopped going up on the sides, but surges of water furiously sprayed as the raft exited the funnel and and entered a tube that was much more calm. A few minutes later, the raft zoomed out of the tube, and into the waterpark, caught by a worker saying the ride was over. “Thank you for making me do that.” Alex said to Megan as they hopped off the raft. “Now, let’s go do that again.”

Storybird

Have you ever made a story you started with pictures? I have in an app called StoryBird. StoryBird is an app where you can write whimsical stories and poems. I made a story about Fairies and dragons, I think you should read it. I liked getting to pick out my pictures, and to put everything together. It was a fun project to do.

Two Voice Poem Project

My class and me created a 2-voice poem. It was fun while hard to make. A 2-voice poem is where you write a poem but there are 2 sides. One side says 1 thing and the other side says another. They can say things at the same time. We were recording our voices to make this in GarageBand. Sometimes the characters from the poem can be competing one another. In my poem they do not. It is about a Sea Otter and a Chimpanzee and they meet. I hope you will listen to it.

Lagoon Field Trip

On April 20th me and my class took a field trip to the lagoon. It was so pretty there. When we first got there, we saw a lizard perched on a brick in front of us! When we looked at it, it looked at us, until it ran into a bush. Then, we walked in the direction closer to the water. It was amazing! Through binoculars I saw 3 Great Egrets, and 2 Snowy Egrets. All 5 of them were in the same area! I was not sure if they were feeding or mating, but it was an amazing thing to have seen. I wrote that in my field notebook. After that, we walked back to where we started, and while we were walking up the path, there were so many amazing plants. They were incredible to see. A lot of the plants had Spittle Bugs on them. Spittle Bugs are such a cool type of bug. The “spit” they use is really just a foamy form of plant sap. Then, when we were back where we started, we went towards the direction that was land and trees and grass and plants. When we walked down the path, there were so many pretty flowers. Some of them were purple and white, and some of them were orange. In this area there were no spittle bugs. When we got to the water we found the Ridgeway Clapper Rail and his home. One of the things I noticed that I wrote down was that their home was right where the mud surface and the water met. They would not go further than 2 yards from their home. There were 2 of them. I thought that this field trip was really fun. I liked getting a chance to observe everything.

My Poem About What Happens Over and Under the Kelp Forests

This blog post is a poem that I wrote in school, when my class was studying kelp and mammals and non-mammals. So I hope you read it.

Over the Kelp Forest, a sea otter throws a sea urchin shell to the bottom of the Kelp Forest after finishing sea urchin meat for a snack. Under the Kelp Forest, a curious clam watches the sea urchin shell sink to the bottom, like a feather floats down to the grass. Soon, a Garibaldi swims over as curious as the clam. It swims a circle over the shell, wondering what he should do. The clam decides: There’s nothing exciting here. I’ll be on my way.

Over the Kelp Forest, a starfish sits on a high rock, watching a whale swim. Under the Kelp Forest a lobster swims on the floor of the forest, over to a small fish for a snack.

Over the Kelp Forest, waves break. The sound of waves meeting waves reach a Dolphins ear. Under the Kelp Forest, a whale breaches, and a green seahorse swims to an anemone.

Product Review About Legos

This blog post is about my product review. A product review is a review about a product like a toy or a lego set or something else. It was a lot of fun to make, and to make my my product review I took my iPad home for the first time to take pictures for the product review and then the next day took the iPad back to school and wrote on notecards and used them as scripts. After, we made a video on an app called Explain Everything that you can watch right now.
